I-CAR RECOGNIZES NEW AND LONG-TERM GOLD CLASS BUSINESSESAn elite group has qualified as Gold Class Professionals for over a decade, nine of which joined in 1990. These businesses are quickly approaching 14 consecutive years as Gold Class Professionals. They are listed below in the order that they joined the program:
Please note: Gold Class recognition will occur every other month in the e-newsletter. The next recognition article will appear in the July 19, 2004. The Gold Class program continues to grow and welcomed approximately 150 new Gold Class Professionals between March 2, 2003 and May 1, 2004. I-CAR would like to commend these businesses on their commitment to collision repair. I-CAR is grateful for the dedication shown by all of its Gold Class businesses, and looks to a future where every person in the collision industry has the necessary technical knowledge and skills relevant to their position to achieve complete and safe repairs.

I-CAR MONCTON EXTREME EVENT BRINGS TOGETHER INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
The two I-CAR Enhanced Delivery training programs held during the event were the first time the programs had been taught and were an instant success. Cosmetic Straightening Aluminum (STA01) and Replacing Aluminum Exterior Panels (PRA01) quickly sold out and for those that missed the opportunity to attend the training programs, look for these to be scheduled by your local I-CAR committee!
The event kicked off on Friday with several industry speakers. Delando Hawthorne of Akzo Nobel discussed the importance of continued technical training, I-CAR Canada Regional Manager Tracey Blouin provided an update on the new I-CAR Training Paths and welding qualification test site information, and Guy Oulette from IBC Investigative Services discussed identification of stolen vehicles and vehicle immobilizers. Attendees gathered on Friday and Saturday to attend the trade show that featured a wide variety of industry vendors. These vendors included: 3M Canada, Akzo Nobel, A.M.H. Canada, BASF Canada, Budget Rent-A-Car Maritimes, CARQEST Canada, Dupont Performance Coatings, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Eastern Environmental Services Ltd., Green Plan Environmental Ltd., Hub City Auto Parts, I-CAR, Innotec North America, JD Coyle Sales, Norton Canada, Mitchell/MPX Data Systems, Robert Buzzell Ltd., and Standard Auto Glass.
On Saturday, event attendees again had the opportunity to hear additional industry speakers. Gary Quigg from Access Market Research touched on the value of CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index), Guy Cassie from CCNB discussed the objectives of their pre-employment program, and Jean-Marie Michaud from NB Apprenticeship Department talked about the program and its relation to the automotive industry. ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR ASE FALL 2004 TESTING OPENS NEXT WEEKOnline registration for the Fall 2004 ASE certification tests will be available beginning June 1, 2004.Fall ASE certification tests will be offered in November 2004, with a registration deadline of September 24 for all tests. The tests will be given at over 700 locations throughout the United States and Canada. To become ASE-certified, students register for and take one or more of ASE’s 40-plus exams. After passing at least one exam and providing proof of two years of relevant work experience, the automotive professional becomes ASE-certified. However, re-certification must take place every five years. I-CAR and Industry Training Alliance training programs prepare collision repair professionals for ASE certification tests. To help participants better prepare for the ASE-certification tests, I-CAR has identified programs for each of the collision tests. A properly-trained automotive professional that has also completed the appropriate ASE certification(s) provides the credentials that give the vehicle owner confidence that their vehicle can be properly repaired. I-CAR TRAINING IN NEW ZEALAND CONTINUES TO GROW
Justin Narayan of Bryant Road Panel & Motors Ltd recently became the 500th test participant to successfully complete the I-CAR Steel MIG (GMA) Welding Qualification Test in New Zealand. Justin was the seventh person from Bryant to successfully complete the welding qualification. Justin successfully completed the qualification test without any retests. Bryant Road Panel & Motors has had strong participation in other I-CAR training programs this past year. This year has seen a steady flow of registrations for the I-CAR Steel MIG (GMA) Welding Qualification Test. The New Zealand Collision Repair Association (CRA) has required the successful completion of this qualification test for its members who undertake structural repairs. Training Promotional TourRobert Renwick, I-CAR Course Coordinator and instructor recently returned from touring the country promoting upcoming I-CAR Enhanced Delivery training programs that are scheduled at various locations. There has been strong registration numbers from all sectors of the collision repair industry. A total of 14 training programs, on a wide variety of topics, will be conducted in May and June. This continued interest in training has kept the New Zealand office very busy. |
