I-CAR EDUCATION FONDATION PROCLAIMS DECEMBER INDUSTRY TRAINING ALLIANCE MONTH Recently, the I-CAR Education Foundation marked a momentous occasion by welcoming the 100th career and technical school and college into the Industry Training Alliance. To celebrate the continued success of the Industry Training Alliance, the Education Foundation has proclaimed December as Industry Training Alliance month.
To recognize the December Alliance month, the Foundation will be offering several online meetings for all interested members of the industry to learn more about the Alliance and how it affects everyone, including schools, students, and businesses. The information sessions will be offered at 2:00 pm CST every Wednesday in December. Please contact the Foundation to sign up for one of these sessions. Beginning with the first school membership in 2001, the Alliance has directly affected the education of over 1,000 students and is continuing to grow in size and in the benefits that these schools offer to students. The 100 participating Alliance schools are located all across the United States and Canada and vary in size and the length of their program with ranges from nine months to four years. Some schools offer a secondary program, some offer post-secondary, and some of the schools provide both secondary and post-secondary programs. However, as different as they all are, what links all these schools together as Alliance members are the benefits that each school can offer to graduates and employers. As a participant, the student has the opportunity to begin earning I-CAR Gold Class points while still in the Alliance school program. The student may then apply for these points either immediately after graduation or at a later date. Students are encouraged to use these points as a resume builder when applying for employment or to use these points to achieve their Platinum designation. Over the past five years, students from these schools have applied for over 20,000 Gold Class points. The Alliance also benefits employers, especially those whose facilities maintain the I-CAR Gold Class Professionals designation. An Alliance graduate could enter the workplace with anywhere between 1 - 70 I-CAR Gold Class points, depending upon how many points a school builds into their curriculum. Those points can then be used to fulfill the point requirements required for a particular job description. The employer also has the option to purchase the Gold Class points for the graduates in order to fulfill the point requirements. This saves the employer both time and money because the student-employee has already fulfilled their training requirements in the career and technical school and college setting. The Education Foundation continues to accept applications from schools to become members of the Alliance. To become a member, a career and technical school or college must use the I-CAR Live curriculum (formerly known as the Enhanced Delivery), offered by the I-CAR Education Foundation. In addition, the school must either be ASE-certified to the NATEF standards or provide documentation to support proof of a Canadian Provincial apprentice program. Additionally, any school using the I-CAR curriculum may have its’ instructors successfully complete the I-CAR Instructor Qualification Workshop (IQW). The instructor must also successfully complete at least one Instructor Training Evaluation (ITE) to qualify for admission into the Alliance. For a list of schools participating in the Alliance or to download a school application to join, please visit the Foundation web site at www.ed-foundation.org or call 888.722.3787, Ext. 282.
