I-CAR VOLUNTEER STEVE SAUNDERS - FAITH IN I-CAR TRAINING

I-CAR volunteer Steve Saunders is quick to tell anyone why a training relationship with I-CAR is valuable to him and the business he manages. And his words are quickly followed up by his actions as an I-CAR volunteer.

Saunders is general manager of the Gold Class Professionals designated Faith Quality Auto Body in Murrieta, California. "We pride ourselves on our training relationship with I-CAR; being aligned with the organization has established our credibility as a collision repair facility that is capable of making a complete and safe repair. The kind of relationships I-CAR has built with OEMs and insurance companies are second to none, to stay up on industry knowledge, news, and training we would be foolish not to align ourselves with I-CAR."

Saunders' commitment to I-CAR shows in the time he's devoted to the organization as district chairman for Riverside, California (#0926) and as an I-CAR volunteer. He got his start with I-CAR in 1992 as a district co-chair under the direction of I-CAR program instructor and district chair at the time, Frank Marta at Colonial Auto Body in Temecula, California. Today, Saunders is a district committee chair and actively works to place I-CAR classes all year long in the Riverside and Moreno Valley area.

Saunders also serves as a member of the Gold Class Advisory Committee. "Steve shows a true commitment to the Gold Class Professionals and Platinum Individual programs in his service on the Gold Class Advisory Committee," commented the committee's staff liaison Krista Flanagan. "Steve provides valuable recommendations to staff which help to continually improve the Gold Class and Platinum programs and position them as the industry benchmarks of training."

Saunders is also the proud recipient of the 2006 Founders award for the South Pacific region. A regular sponsor of the I-CAR Education Foundation golf tournament at the I-CAR International Annual Meeting, he is also getting ready to solicit other collision repair facilities to support the Education Foundation and its Mission.

"Steve is a true pleasure to work with and has the can do attitude of a committee chair," said I-CAR South Pacific Regional Manager Lorene Lombardi.

"I try to be consistent and work hard to meet my yearly goals," said Saunders. "I really enjoy the work I’m doing, I love the people and I know Lorene appreciates the work that I do. I don't depend on recognition but its nice when I receive it."

"His hard work and dedication to I-CAR is unmatched," said I-CAR Zone Trainer Mark Torres. "I have worked with Steve since about 1999 and he has never forgotten to order class materials and 99 percent of the time attends a class to help with registration and through all of this he also runs a shop with 50+ employees."

STERLING AUTOBODY CENTER UTILIZES I-CAR MOBILE QUALIFICATION TEST PROGRAM

Utilizing the I-CAR Mobile Qualification Test (MQT) program, seven Sterling Autobody Center technicians from Libertyville, Illinois successfully completed the Automotive Steel GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Test on January 17, 2007. The experience was so successful that Sterling Autobody will be utilizing the I-CAR MQT program with other facilities in their network around the country.

Sterling Autobody Centers Training Manager Paul Blaski said, “We intend to utilize the I-CAR MQT in our markets outside of Chicago to further develop the structural skills of our technicians and instill pride in our employees. This initiative further illustrates Sterling Autobody’s commitment to industry excellence and demonstrates our desire to be among the elite repairers in the collision industry.”

Blaski continued, “The January 17 event was a tremendous success with a 100% pass rate by our technicians. While the prep and subsequent testing were hands-on and intensive, our technicians stepped up and performed well under pressure while also earning four I-CAR points each in the process."

I-CAR Qualification Test Program Manager for North American Operations Audie Swedeen said, “I commend Sterling Autobody on utilizing the I-CAR MQT program and having their technicians complete the industry recognized qualification tests.”

If you are interested in bringing the I-CAR MQT truck to your facility, please send your contact information to mqtinfo@i-car.com.
