GOLD CLASS PROFESSIONALS BUSINESS FEATURED ON CELEBRITY BUILD TV

Gold ClassGold Class Professionals designated business Carl's Collision Center in Fall River, Massachusetts, is restoring a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle with vehicle owner Philadelphia Eagles lineman Jon Runyan. The restoration is featured this month on the TV show Celebrity Build. View photos of its progress at www.celebritybuild.tv. See the unveiling of the complete vehicle on Celebrity Build on Fox Sports Channel, April 27, 5 p.m. Eastern.

The Bay Street garage is doing a complete restoration on a 1970 Chevy Chevelle convertible for the TV show "Celebrity Build" shown in this area on Fox Sports New England.

Philadelphia Eagles lineman Jon Runyan bought the car a few weeks ago, and over the next six weeks, he will watch it develop from a skeleton to a better-than-new classic.

A complete restoration might normally take a year to a year and a half.

"It's not something a lot of people see," said the 11-year NFL veteran while looking at the car's bare steel frame.

Runyan who lives in New Jersey, isn't just on the sidelines of the restoration - as part of the show, he'll be working alongside the mechanics from "Celebrity Build" and Carl's to make it into the silver with a black top muscle car he envisions.

"I've always like Chevelles," he says. "But I've never tried to restore one."

Runyan has been around cars his whole life. He grew up in Flint, Mich., where his father was a General Motors mechanic for 30 years.

The 33-year-old father of three built a motorcycle with "Celebrity Build" before and has participated in Dayton Bike Week with his custom bike.

He's always wanted to undertake a project like restoring the Chevelle, he says, but never found the right time and right people.

Runyan, who played in the Pro Bowl - the league's all-star game - in 2002, got involved in the show through his agent, who has Patriots lineman Matt Light as a client. Light also built a custom motorcycle with "Celebrity Build."

Carl's Collision Center was picked as the site for the show after owner Carl Garcia had some cars the center painted in a Las Vegas car show.

"I love challenges," Garcia says more than once. The area native has owned the business with his father for 13 years.

"To have the chance to build a car from scratch," he says, "it's an all-day and all-night thing. It's a team effort."

The expansive garage at Carl's is filled with dozens of cars, but Runyan's Chevelle will be the only one with a camera crew through the next six weeks. The crew began filming last Thursday when the work began.

"Celebrity Build," in its first season, was created by brothers Ron and Chuck Wendt, who worked on The Learning Channel show "American Chopper."

The show has been in the works for two years, Ron says. "It's a dream finally come true."

The Wendts assembled the crew for the show through connections in the business.

For Runyan, who drives a Chevrolet truck, part of the restoration includes pushing the driver's seat back to accommodate his 6'7", 330-pound frame.

The "Celebrity Build" web site, www.celebritybuild.tv, lists the show's air times as Fridays at 5 p.m., and Saturdays at 9 p.m.

The show's executive producer Domingo Monteiro says the show is about helping celebrities - both national, like Runyan, and local - build the car or bike of their dreams.

The show's mantra says Monteiro and repeated on the show's web site, is "If you want it built right, build it yourself."

Also recently, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark presented Wayne Houghton (I-CAR in New Zealand Board member representing the Collision Repair Association) with a certificate of recognition.

Prime Minister Helen Clark presents certificate to Wayne Houghton, Chairman of the NZ Collision Repair Association Inc.

The presentation took place in Auckland at the Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO) launch of their new Advanced Technician Training Programme (ATech). This new qualification was designed in collaboration with leading industry experts to meet the demands of an increasingly sophisticated industry.  Development of the ATech program has formed a great partnership between automotive industry and the education sector.

Houghton's recognition was for his and others in the collision repair industry sector whose efforts have made this qualification happen. Houghton is a strong believer in continuing education and supporter of I-CAR in New Zealand. He says that he can envision I-CAR in New Zealand being part of the training required for this advanced technical training programme.
