I-CAR VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE RAISES OVER $12,000 TO GIVE BACK TO LOCAL SCHOOLS

The Broward County Florida I-CAR Volunteer Committee raised over $12,000 in support of the I-CAR Education Foundation $100 per Collision Repair Facility per Year campaign at a fundraiser at the Marriott North in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on May 10. In an effort to raise funds and bring together students and industry professionals, the committee invited the local industry to attend a fundraiser and sponsor a student’s attendance. As a result, 50 students from local career and technical schools and colleges attended the event. The night consisted of a dinner, raffle, and question and answer session. Panelists from various industry segments addressed student questions about many facets of the industry, in an effort to better prepare them for desired careers in the industry.

"The evening was an opportunity for students to learn from professionals working in their fields," said Purvis O’Brien, I-CAR Volunteer Committee member, event co-organizer, and emcee. "Also, because students were able to talk directly with industry professionals, it provided an opportunity for recruitment of entry-level employees."

During the event, I-CAR Field Operations Manager Jeff Peevy addressed the crowd with a few words about the $100 per Collision Repair Facility per Year campaign and its potential impact on local schools. In addition, I-CAR Southeast Regional Manager Jerry Sopkowiak gave an update on current I-CAR activities in southeast Florida.

"Many of the attendees took their donation envelopes home, so we are anticipating still more funds to come in for local career and technical schools and colleges," stated Jimmy Suppe I-CAR Volunteer Committee member and event co-organizer along with wife and I-CAR Volunteer Committee chair Julia Suppe. "We look forward to seeing what these funds will do locally; I know there’s a potential for a real impact in terms of the funds and what the volunteer committee can do to help students."

"It is through the tremendous commitment, passion, and efforts of volunteers like Jimmy Suppe, Julia Suppe, Purvis O’Brien, and all members of the Broward County Florida I-CAR Volunteer Committee that the I-CAR Education Foundation is able to work with communities across U.S. and Canada to make a difference in the career and technical schools and colleges. Together, we can make a difference," said Ron Ray, Executive Director of the I-CAR Education Foundation.

For all contributions made through the $100 per Collision Repair Facility per Year campaign, 85% go back to the career and technical schools and colleges in the regions or country where the funds originated. To participate in supporting schools in your region or country, visit the I-CAR Education Foundation web site at www.ed-foundation.org and select the "Donate Now" button. All contributions for the campaign are recognized on the I-CAR Education Foundation web site, and donors receive recognition via a framed certificate and window decal for display. Please contact the I-CAR Education Foundation at 888.722.3787, Ext. 283 with any questions.
