QUALIFICATION TESTING ON TRACK FOR EARLY LAUNCH IN AUSTRALIAThe big question being asked among many repairers is how effective are the welds being carried out in my repair facility? I-CAR Qualification Tests will be available shortly across Australia in certain areas of the I-CAR Live curriculum. Qualification Tests allow professionals the opportunity to prove that they have the skills to perform the tasks required for proper, efficient, and safe collision repairs. Because of the skill sets involved, these hands-on tests must be successfully completed every five years to maintain the qualification. I-CAR will provide the following Qualification Tests: Automotive Steel GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Test (WCS03) in the first half of the year then followed by the Automotive Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding Qualification Test (WCA03) towards the last half. Further information is available on the I-CAR Australia web site. |

2008 I-CAR AUSTRALIA TRAINING SCHEDULE TO DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF TRAINING VENUESHot on the heels of the completion of its first twelve months of training delivery across Australia, I-CAR intends to expand its teaching horizons and deliver programs in an increased number of venues in 2008. The business plan developed prior to the official launch of I-CAR Australia in September 2006, identified some 6 venues, mainly the capital cities, at which training would take place. As a result of greater interest in and acceptance of the caliber of the I-CAR program content, together with the qualification of an increased number of I-CAR program instructors, it was possible to expand the 2007 venue listing to 9 by year end. The new centers that will be introduced in 2008 include both the north and south coast regions of south east Queensland, the far north coast areas of New South Wales and the Goulburn/Mossvale area, Wagga Wagga, Geelong and Bendigo, Port August in South Australia, and the towns of either Albany or Bunbury in the west. The instructor recruitment program is also running ahead of expectations and this momentum allows for increased delivery options. Requests for training in other areas should be forwarded to admin@i-car.com.au. |

I-CAR AUSTRALIA STAFF SHORTAGES INFLUENCE A CHANGE IN LIVE TRAINING OPTIONSWithout a doubt, the effect of releasing staff for training during a busy week sometimes creates a conflict for employers who are committed to training their repair technicians. Having key personnel unavailable due to training commitments, coupled with the overall shortage of qualified staff, has meant that sometimes training simply must miss out. That situation is now changing somewhat due to feedback from repairers to the administration support team in the I-CAR Australia Headquarters. As a result of that feedback and coupled with an increase in the number of qualified program instructors, I-CAR has been able to consider after hours or even weekend training sessions for interested repairers and their staff. I-CAR program instructors are so passionate about their role, a number of them have offered to give up more of their valuable time to provide true flexible delivery to the industry. A recent weekend session in Adelaide, organized by local repairers and I-CAR members saw some 18 new students from a number of collision repair facilities attend programs which they would otherwise had been unable to attend. I-CAR Australia CEO Richard Pratt said,” I-CAR would consider any serious request from the repair sector to deliver out of hours training or to combine a selection of any specific program of interest. I-CAR is an industry based organization which will wherever possible provide the flexibility the industry requires.” |
