I-CAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION THANKS 15-YEAR DONORS

I-CAR Education FoundationThe I-CAR Education Foundation would like to thank nine companies for their continued financial support over the past 15 years.

"The I-CAR Education Foundation was allowed to start from humble beginnings with the seed money provided by I-CAR," said Ron Ray, former I-CAR Education Foundation Executive Director. "If it were not for the continuing financial support of the businesses listed below, we would not have been able to accomplish everything we have to date to ensure that employers in the collision industry can hire competent entry-level employees. This list of 15-year financial supporters will grow and be recognized each year."

The I-CAR Education Foundation would like to thank the following:

  • Allstate Insurance
  • Car-O-Liner Company
  • CCC Information Services, Inc.
  • Crest Industries, Inc.
  • GEICO
  • Goss Auto Body, Inc.
  • Nationwide Insurance
  • PPG Industries, Inc.
  • State Farm Insurance

The I-CAR Education Foundation, founded in 1991, is a not-for-profit organization; its IRS 501(c)(3) status allows it to accept grants and donations from government agencies, individuals, and businesses.

Timothy W. Morgan, Car-O-Liner Global Director - Technical Training stated, "Car-O-Liner realized from its inception in 1973 that education was going to be the strongest need as technology increased in the collision industry. The I-CAR Education Foundation has done a tremendous job preparing secondary and post-secondary education with the proper curriculum and tools, while raising the industry awareness and support for preparing young adults to enter as employable candidates. For that reason, Car-O-Liner has supported the Education Foundation for 15 years and will continue to assist with their initiatives."

Bill Daly, Allstate Insurance Assistant Vice President - Auto Process Mastery and Development agrees with Morgan's remarks. "The safe and quality repair of our customers' vehicles is a top priority for Allstate. Fifteen years ago, we recognized the benefits that the I-CAR Education Foundation provides. We continue to believe our commitment to the Education Foundation will create qualified future collision industry employees and, in turn, enhance our customers' claim experience and provide the level of repair quality our customers expect and deserve," reinforced Daly.

"When the I-CAR Education Foundation started, we had the opportunity to improve our industry with a better-trained technician. So we feel in order to keep improving our industry we need to support and continue to support the I-CAR Education Foundation," echoed Tim Goss, Goss Auto Body.

In closing, Michelle Shotkoski, I-CAR Education Foundation Planning and Project Manager reflected, "We would like to thank and recognize the growing number of companies that have consistently supported our mission through financial contributions for these past 15 years. We feel it is important that the industry understands those companies that not only see the critical need to address the shortage of entry-level technicians, but are willing to invest their resources to do so. This support is vital because there is still much work to be done."

I-CAR INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBER GENE SCAMBRAY INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF EAGLES

I-CAR International Board of Directors member Gene Scambray was inducted into the prestigious "Hall of Eagles," the collision industry's equivalent of the "Hall of Fame," at the Collision Industry Achievement Awards Luncheon held at NACE 2007 in Las Vegas. He was recognized by the industry for his leadership, dedication and outstanding contributions.

Scambray has served as the Director of Industry Relations for Copart for the past seven years. He was previously employed by California State Automobile Association Inter-Insurance Bureau (AAA) as the Manager of Physical Damage Claim Services. For 35 years, he was also employed by CSAA IIB before retiring.

Scambray also currently serves on the CIC Industry Forum Group and Mitchell Information Advisory Board. He has participated on the MOTOR advisory board as well as the ISO Auto Physical Damage Committee and the California Bureau of Automotive Repairs collision task force committee.

"Gene's dedication is unmatched," remarked Tom McGee, former I-CAR President & CEO. "He truly believes in the vision of I-CAR, and that same dedication and desire to improve the industry spills over into all of his endeavors. No one is more deserving of this award than Gene."

"Gene's induction into the Hall of Eagles is well-deserved and recognizes the many contributions that he has made to keep the industry moving forward," stated John Edelen, I-CAR Board Chairman. Edelen further commented, "We are thankful for his dedication to the collision industry and participation on the I-CAR International Board of Directors."

GEICO INSURANCE CONTRIBUTES $10,000 TO THE I-CAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT THE COLLISION INDUSTRY

GEICO Insurance contributed $10,000 in October to support the I-CAR Education Foundation mission. The $10,000 contribution to the Education Foundation Industry Partners Annual Fund will support many Education Foundation programs that promote and enhance career opportunities in the industry.

"We would very much like to thank GEICO Insurance for their support of the I-CAR Education Foundation on a national level," said Ron Ray, former I-CAR Education Foundation Executive Director. "The successes of the Education Foundation would be far fewer without industry support. Trust me when I say that it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. It is through companies like GEICO that we have been able to fundamentally change the way collision repair is taught in our school systems."

"The I-CAR Education Foundation has persistently and successfully helped career and technical schools prepare good entry-level employees, and we at GEICO are proud to support such a worthwhile organization," said William DeGrocco, GEICO Assistant Vice President.

Over $50,000 was raised as part of the "Keys to Speed" campaign benefiting the education programs and services of the I-CAR Education Foundation and the Collision Industry Foundation.

"This fundraiser was a huge success. We appreciate all the support from the repair shops and supporters," stated Doug Webb, President of the Collision Industry Foundation.

Bill Dunn from Ace Body Shop in Cordele, Georgia was selected as the grand prize winner of a 1957 Speedster Replica, donated by Keystone Automotive Industries. The drawing was held on November 1, 2007 at Keystone's 60 th anniversary party in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"When I bought my raffle ticket, I was really just looking to support these two great causes. I was so surprised when Keystone General Manager Bill Smith personally came by to tell me that I had won the '57 Speedster Replica!" asserted Dunn.

Ron Ray, former Executive Director of the I-CAR Education Foundation added, "Proceeds from this fundraiser will help the Education Foundation promote and enhance career opportunities in the collision industry. Special thanks to Keystone for their support of our organizations."

I-CAR ON WHEELS IN NEW ZEALAND

I-CAR New Zealand CarRobert Renwick, I-CAR NZ Training Manager, is required to undertake a good deal of travel around the country to present training for the collision repair industry throughout New Zealand. Recognizing this fact and acknowledging the value of I-CAR training to the industry, Mitsubishi Motors NZ has made a vehicle available to Robert for his travels. Robert explained that while he was researching model-specific technical information from Mitsubishi they felt that there is no better way of understanding then seeing the real thing. Design features of the car are different and a very appropriate example of model-specific repair requirements. "Thanks to Mitsubishi we have been able to have the new vehicle available at many I-CAR programs," explained Robert.

CORRECTION: GOLD CLASS RECOGNITION LIST ADDITION

Platinum IndividualIn the previous I-CAR e-newsletter, Roblin Auto Body of Roblin, Manitoba was mistakenly not listed in the Gold Class recognition list for those businesses who have maintained their designation for 10+ years.

I-CAR truly commends businesses like Roblin Auto Body for the value they place on I-CAR training. Without well-trained professionals like those at Roblin Auto Body it would not be possible for professionals to achieve complete and safe repairs for the ultimate benefit of the consumer.

I-CAR apologizes for the error.
