August 29, 1997 GENERAL MOTORS RECOGNIZES I-CAR AUTOMOTIVE MIG WELDING QUALIFICATION TEST AS EQUIVALENT TO THE GM MIG/GMAW WELDING TEST-OUT The General Motors Product Education and Training Committee has voted to accept the I-CAR Certificate of Qualification for the I-CAR Automotive MIG Welding Qualification Test as an equivalent to the GM MIG/GMAW Welding Course Test-Out (42003.11). Technicians who have earned the I-CAR Certificate of Qualification will be required to submit their original I-CAR certificate to a GM Training Center to receive test-out credit for the GM MIG/GMAW Welding Course. GM Training Centers will enter the test-out credit into their system immediately upon receipt of the original I-CAR certificate. The I-CAR CR2000 Course - Unit 4: "Welding in Collision Repair" alone is not sufficient to award test-out credit. "I-CAR appreciates General Motors' recognition of our Automotive MIG Welding Qualification Test as an equivalent to their own. We commend their ongoing dedication to excellence in collision repair training," said Dave Heckeler, Director of Marketing and Field Operations. The I-CAR Automotive MIG Welding Qualification Test is a "hands-on" method of qualifying the welding skills of collision repair technicians. Welds must pass both visual and destructive tests. Major vehicle damage requires repair to structural parts. Welding is one of the most critical skills used in repairing this type of damage. The quality of a technician's welds will impact structural integrity, vehicle value, and passenger safety. To date, over 5,000 technicians throughout the United States and Canada have successfully completed the I-CAR Automotive MIG Welding Qualification Test. For a complete listing of testing dates, times and locations please visit the I-CAR web site on the World Wide Web at www.i-car.com. The cost of the test, in the United States and Canada, is $220 or four I-CAR Discount Coupons. Retests cost $110 or two I-CAR Discount Coupons. For additional information on testing at one of the test sites, please call Customer Care at 800.422.7872 (800.422.7872) in the United States. In Canada, please call 1-800-565-ICAR (1-800-565-4227). I-CAR, founded in 1979, is an international, not-for-profit, training organization dedicated to improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of auto collision repair for the ultimate benefit of consumers.
