August 31, 1998 GOLD CLASS WORKSHOP ADDRESSES ENHANCED DELIVERY OF TRAINING (Rolling Meadows, IL) This year's Gold Class Professionals, Workshop was held at the I-CAR, International Annual Meeting in Lake Buena Vista, FL. The workshop drew more than 50 attendees and addressed Gold Class program updates, marketing techniques, and enhanced delivery of training. The meeting kicked off with an introduction from Dave Heckeler, I-CAR's Director of Marketing and Field Operations, and a program update from Jennifer Schaefer, I-CAR's Gold Class Administrator. The program update explained the several projects I-CAR is involved in to increase consumer awareness of I-CAR and the Gold Class program. William Gusler, General Manager of Collision Services, Inc. in Apopka, FL, presented the four different marketing strategies: offensive, defensive, flanking, and guerrilla, and gave real world examples for each. He challenged attendees to choose the strategy that will work best for their business. He also explained that marketing is vital to the success of a business and inspired attendees to "keep going, don't lay down, and never give up!" Tom McGee, I-CAR's Technical Director, presented I-CAR's plans for enhanced delivery of I-CAR Training. I-CAR will begin the development of a series of modularized training program utilizing enhanced delivery and communication technologies. With these new programs, I-CAR will be able to address equivalency issues and offer Gold Class points at the various training levels including vocational-technical schools and colleges, and other providers of training within the Collision Industry. Tom addressed the benefits that this enhanced delivery of training will provide to Students and Gold Class business owners. The meeting concluded with drawings for prizes such as Gold Class hats, water bottles and t-shirts. The winners were Michael Fennerl of State Farm Insurance in Oregon, Bud Nickl of Independent Automotive Damage Appraisers in Missouri, Whitey Westlund of Lehman's Garage in Minnesota, Cecilia Allice of Precision Collision in Texas, and Garrett Wardell of State Farm Insurance in Nevada. A special thank you goes out to our speakers, William Gusler and Tom McGee, and everyone who attended the workshop. Thank you for making this year's Gold Class workshop a success!
