October 3, 2001 AKZO NOBEL COATINGS AND SPIES HECKER JOIN INDUSTRY TRAINING ALLIANCE ROLLING MEADOWS, IL – October 3, 2001 – I-CAR announces that Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc., Car Refinishes and Spies Hecker Inc. are now members of the Industry Training Alliance. Formed by I-CAR, the Training Alliance brings together technical training providers and vocational schools to coordinate their training efforts and increase the availability and quality of training to the collision industry. "I am pleased to welcome Akzo Nobel Coatings and Spies Hecker to the Industry Training Alliance," stated Tom Mack, I-CAR executive vice president and chief executive officer. "As we continue to add quality technical training organizations and vocational schools to the Alliance, students are given many more options to satisfy their training needs." The approved training programs from Akzo Nobel Coatings include: Sikkens Product Training and Advanced Product Training, Sikkens OE Paint Certification Levels I and II, Sikkens Simple Systems Training, and Sikkens Color Tinting Course. Students are eligible to receive between six and ten Gold Class points for each of these programs they complete. Students can also earn five Gold Class points for the successful completion of the Product Training Certification course from Spies Hecker Inc. Tom Mack further stated, " Because all Alliance members are eligible to award Gold Class points for their training, this can greatly reduce a location’s training cost to qualify for the Gold Class status. Hopefully, this will encourage more business locations to achieve the Gold Class Professionals designation." With the creation of the Industry Training Alliance, the Gold Class program is now an industry benchmark, not just an I-CAR program. The Gold Class program provides a simple, yet comprehensive method to measure how the industry and individual locations are progressing toward the goal of complete and safe repairs through proper training. In addition to Akzo Nobel Coatings and Spies Hecker, current Alliance training providers include BASF Corporation, Chief Automotive Systems, DuPont Automotive Finishes, Martin Senour Paints, PPG Automotive Refinish, and Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes.
