Meetings And Conferences: 2006 NACE: Technology Showcase

I-CAR Technology Showcase to Premiere at NACE 2006

Meet I-CAR on the NACE show floor for the introduction of the I-CAR Technology Showcase. The I-CAR Technology Showcase will replace the previous year’s Live Action Demo Theatre. The hour long showcase sessions will focus on new technology and repair methods. These sessions are available to NACE attendees at no additional charge and there is no pre-registration required. Be sure to arrive early due to the large number of attendees expected at the I-CAR Technology Showcase.

The session schedule is:

Thursday, November 2, 2006
11 a.m. - 12 noon           

  • New Construction Materials and Designs
    • How current and future OEM automotive construction methods and materials affect collision repair
    • How joining methods used for production and required for collision repair are changing and why
    • Where new, high and ultra-high strength steels are used in vehicle structures and why
    • Considerations for straightening and replacing parts made from new, high and ultra-high strength steels

1 p.m. - 2 p.m.   

  • Advanced Joining Technologies
    • The latest on squeeze-type resistance spot welding (STRSW)
    • Weld bonding considerations and techniques
    • An overview of laser welding applications and repair considerations
    • MIG brazing applications and repair considerations
    • Rivets and rivet bonding procedures
    • Adhesive bonding update

3 p.m. - 4 p.m.                       

  • Advanced Aluminum Structural Repair
    • Identify vehicles that use aluminum structures
    • Identify different aluminum forming processes, alloys, and joining techniques used in vehicle construction
    • Discuss different aluminum vehicle designs and characteristics
    • Look specifically at some of the most common aluminum intensive vehicles, their structural designs and recommended repair processes

    • Applications of fiber optics and repair considerations
    • Advanced lighting systems
    • Types, repair, and recalibration considerations for occupant classification systems
    • Operation and repair considerations for adaptive cruise control systems
    • An introduction to lane departure warning systems
    • Types and operation of back-up and park assist systems

12 noon - 1 p.m.

  • Alternative Fuel Vehicle Overview
    • Types of alternative fuel vehicles
    • Hybrid propulsion system overview
    • Disable procedures for high voltage systems
    • Collision repairs and procedures for technician protection
    • Demonstration and discussion of procedures, tools, and equipment

3 p.m. - 4 p.m.           

  • Full-Frame Repair and Partial Replacement
    • Construction types and materials
    • Full-frame repair considerations
    • Parts and procedures for partial frame replacement
    • Tools and equipment required for full-frame repairs
    • Straightening and welding techniques for full-frame repair

NACE 2006 will be held November 1-4 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
