I-CAR Technology Showcase to return to NACE

The I-CAR Technology Showcase will return to NACE 2007, November 1 – 3, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Popular with NACE attendees the Technology Showcase made its debut at last year’s expo. All sessions are free to expo attendees and no pre-registration is required. The Technology Showcase schedule is as follows:

11 a.m. – 12 noon – Part Replacement and Straightening Guidelines for Vehicles with New Design Technologies and Materials

  • Considerations for straightening and replacing parts made from new, high and ultra-high strength steels
  • How differences in materials and design are changing the process of how structures are repaired
  • How joining methods used for production and required for collision repair are changing and why

1–2 p.m. – Aluminum-Intensive Vehicle Technologies

  • Understanding the differences between stamped, extruded, and cast aluminum structural parts
  • Production and repair joining methods used on aluminum intensive vehicles
  • The purpose of aluminum/steel combination structures, and how they affect the collision repair process

3 – 4 p.m. – Refinishing Methods and Materials

  • Which refinishing methods are being used at the vehicle maker level and why
  • Addressing the challenges that the collision industry is facing today with refinishing
  • What are the surface preparation steps required for proper application of today's top coats
  • Where are specialty painting and future refinishing trends heading

1 – 2 p.m. – Steel and Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding and MIG Brazing Technologies

  • What are the considerations for GMA (MIG) welding compared to other attachment methods

  • What is GMA (MIG) brazing and how will it affect the collision repair process
