Job Descriptions and Point Requirements: Insurance Company

PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, position-related point requirements will no longer apply for new applicants. New applicants must follow 5&2 requirements to qualify.

Only grandfathered Gold Class designated businesses will need to follow position-related point requirements for their 2007 renewal. All renewals after 2007 will require 2 points of ongoing training annually.

Appraiser/Estimator/Outside Adjuster

Inspects, analyzes, and evaluates collision damaged vehicles. Writes formal estimates of repair costs and coordinates the repair with the collision repair business.

16 Points

Claims Manager

Analyzes insurance claims to determine extent of insurance carrier's liability. Settles claims in accordance with policy provisions. No direct involvement in estimate writing or training. Claims managers who are not involved in direct estimate writing or training must have a supervisor in place.

Reinspector/Claims Trainer/Claims Supervisor

Acts as supplemental estimate writer and supervises estimate writing. Oversees and controls repair quality. Reinspects/ensures that vehicle has been properly repaired and ready to return to the customer. Trains internal personnel on damage appraisal techniques, processes, and procedures.

Personnel not directly involved with estimating, evaluating estimates or supervising the estimating of the APD process have no Gold Class point requirements. Examples of these positions are:

Inside Claims Representative/Adjuster

Handles telephone calls from policy holders, collision repair businesses and other parties connected to a specific claim but does not write or supervise the writing of an appraisal/estimate.

Insurance Salesperson

Handles sales for policy holders, but does not write or supervise the writing of an appraisal/estimate.

Office/Claims Management

Oversees and manages the daily administrative functions and claims management of the business.

Office Support Personnel

Performs clerical, secretarial, and/or administrative duties, including answering phones, scheduling estimates, typing correspondence, preparing reports, data entry, filing, etc.
