Job Descriptions and Point Requirements: Recycling Business

PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, position-related point requirements will no longer apply for new applicants. New applicants must follow 5&2 requirements to qualify.

Only grandfathered Gold Class designated businesses will need to follow position-related point requirements for their 2007 renewal. All renewals after 2007 will require 2 points of ongoing training annually.

Dismantler

Dismantles vehicles. Tags and transfers parts to storage or racks. Identifies and disposes of damaged parts. Tests parts removed from vehicles, including the condition of engines and other drivetrain parts. Determines the suitability and serviceability of vehicle parts. Cleans and paints parts if salvageable. Repairs shop equipment and vehicles. Operates shop vehicles and equipment to retrieve vehicles.

Owner/Manager - Not Exempt

Purchases salvage vehicles. Oversees total operation of office, sales, and purchases. Owners not involved in sales or dismantling must have a manager in place.

Salesperson/Sales Manager

Receives orders from customers. Prepares invoices and billing forms. Receives and makes parts inquiries via telephone or in person. Sells parts or vehicles over the counter to the general public or commercial outlets. Stocks display shelves with vehicle parts. Uses manuals or other technical references to determine the interchangeability of parts. Prices vehicle parts according to price books. Operates cash drawer or terminal and issues receipts. Maintains parts location records.

Platinum Individual Requirement:
7 Points

Personnel not directly involved in the dismantling or sales process have no Gold Class point requirements. Examples of these positions are:

Driver

Delivers parts to purchaser and does not perform any dismantling procedures.

Office Support Personnel

Performs clerical, accounting, secretarial, and/or administrative duties, including answering phones, typing correspondence, preparing reports, data entry, billing, etc.

Owner - Exempt

Only performs administrative tasks and is not involved in daily business activities, sales, or the dismantling process. An exempt recycling business owner must have a full-time manager listed on the application that performs the tasks of the non-exempt owner.
