Training Paths FAQs

Do I Have To Take All Of The Core Training Programs?

Material in the Core Training Programs provides a foundation for more complicated programs in the Live curriculum. I-CAR strongly recommends that all students are very familiar with the concepts covered in these programs.

Why Don’t I Recognize Any Of The Program Names In The Training Paths?

In an effort to help students understand what each Live program entails, I-CAR has replaced programs names with more descriptive titles. For example, "Refinishing Program 4" is now entitled "Detailing." A complete list of old and new programs names is available to ensure you do not register for a program you have already taken.

Where Do I Begin On My Path?

Material in the Core Training Programs provides a foundation for more complicated programs in the Live curriculum. I-CAR strongly recommends that all students are very familiar with the concepts covered in the Core Training Programs. Next, select a task area. Based on your job duties, more than one task area may apply to you. Each task area is divided into four sequential groups. The descriptive program names will help give you a good idea of what each program covers. However, the best way to determine your experience level is to read the program descriptions online or in the I-CAR Training Catalog. The descriptions detail the material covered in the programs. When searching online, use the online class search code located under each program description on the training paths.

When selecting which task area group is most appropriate for you, keep in mind that a good training program teaches you new information while also reviewing some material you already know and use.

Why Do My Certificates And Transcripts Look Different Than Before?

To help you stay on your chosen training path, I-CAR has developed transcripts and certificates to help you track the training you have successfully completed, as well as the training logical for you to take next.

To help keep your training up-to-date, I-CAR will send you a report, called a transcript, that looks just like the training paths and shows which programs you have completed. Your new “training paths transcript” shows you which programs are logical to take next by following your chosen path. You will automatically receive a transcript after completing any Live program. The back of the transcript lists all I-CAR Traditional courses, qualification tests, and Live programs completed and their associated points with any applicable expiration dates.

When you successfully complete a task area group in the training paths, you will receive a Certificate Of Professional Development Through Training to signify your accomplishment. For all certificates available through I-CAR training, refer to the certificate listing. Please allow four to six weeks delivery time for I-CAR certificates.”

What Is The Difference Between The Certificate And The Transcript?

Your certificate is a document intended for display that lists all completed groups within a task area. While you may chose to display your transcript, its main function is to list all Live programs you have successfully completed, even if you have not completed an entire task area group. Also, because the transcript looks just like the training paths, you can use the transcript to determine the next logical program on your chosen training path.

You will receive a Certificate Of Professional Development Through Training when you complete the Core Training Programs or a task area group. The certificate will list the task area and all the programs you successfully completed to earn the certificate.

You will receive a transcript every time you successfully complete an I-CAR program. The transcript looks just like the training paths. The difference between the training paths and your transcript is that all of the Live programs you have successfully completed will have a checked box next to them.

How Do I Track My Points?

The training paths also list the associated points for each Live program. Under each program description is a number in parentheses - this number is the number of points you will receive when you successfully complete the program.

For example: Stationary Glass

GLA02(1)

You will receive one (1) point when you attended the Stationary class and pass the post test administered at the end of the class.

What is an online class search code? How will it benefit me?

The online class search code is located under the program description, next to the number of points in parentheses.

For example: Stationary Glass

GLA02(1)

When searching online class schedules, GLA02 appears just before "Stationary Glass" in the program name pulldown menu.

Why aren’t courses on the training paths?

I-CAR previously organized the Live into courses, such as CR3000 and Damage Analysis. To assist you in determining what training will benefit you the most, I-CAR has reorganized the Live curriculum into the training paths according to task areas and Core Training Programs. I-CAR feels that if you, the collision industry professional, can more easily select the training most appropriate for you, we are one step closer to our Vision that every person in the collision industry, current and future, has the necessary knowledge and skills relevant to their position to achieve a complete and safe repair.
