What is the Insurance PDP™?

The Insurance Professional Development Program is role-relevant training that provides the Auto Physical Damage Appraiser role within the insurance industry with the training and knowledge to facilitate complete and safe repairs. The program was designed by the Inter-Industry and has become the industry standard for collision repair training.

Roles & Training

The PDP provides a distinct training path for Auto Physical Damage Appraisers in industry-recognized Knowledge Areas.

Knowledge Areas & ProLevels

The Inter-Industry has identified specific Knowledge Areas that Auto Physical Damage Appraisers must possess in order to facilitate complete and safe repairs.

In collaboration with the Inter-Industry, I-CAR® has grouped these Knowledge Areas according to skill level, called ProLevels. Each ProLevel builds upon previous knowledge and training, to cover progressively more difficult Knowledge Areas.

Individuals in the PDP progress from ProLevel 1® through ProLevel 3®, with ongoing training thereafter, to ultimately achieve and maintain advanced-level knowledge.

Training Formats

Insurance PDP training is available in live, online and virtual formats. To align with Insurer needs, all ProLevel 1 courses are available online. Note that while online content is convenient, this does not replace the value-added learning experience enjoyed by professionals across the industry and gained by attending live I-CAR classes.

Timeframes

Depending on the individual's prior level of training and commitment to achievement, completion of ProLevel 1 requirements could take 3 - 12 months. Completion of all ProLevel 1 requirements qualifies the individual for Platinum™ recognition.

To maintain Platinum recognition, the individual must complete all ProLevel 2® requirements, and subsequently all ProLevel 3 requirements, by each annual renewal date. After achieving ProLevel 3, to maintain Platinum recognition the individual must annually complete six credit hours of
role-relevant ongoing training by the annual renewal date.
