Course Content

1. Pre-Course Capability & Readiness Assessment
Before instruction starts, the instructor will conduct an in-shop Pre-Course Capability & Readiness Assessment to confirm that the facility’s infrastructure and equipment are prepared for the in-shop Hands-On Skills Development course. The recommended time frame for the assessment is one to two weeks prior to training day to avoid any delays.

2. Instruction
Students will be provided with information on:

  • Safety and welding
  • Spot welder inspection and setup
  • Surface preparation and spot weld on coupons
  • Spot welding of a prop and inspection

3. Hands-On Practice and Coaching
Students will take the knowledge learned in the instructional portion of the class and apply it to the hands-on activities. They will also have the ability to receive coaching and feedback from a trained instructor. Throughout this course, students will work to become proficient with understanding safety precautions for welding, setting up and inspecting their welder, making various spot welds on  coupons of different thicknesses, making welds using different arm types and configurations, and finally making welds using weld-bond adhesives and weld-through primer.

 

Prerequisites
Completion of the following knowledge areas are required:
Squeeze-Type Resistance Spot Welding
Spot Welded Panel Replacement

 

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain how to properly plan for the repair
  • Properly setup a spot welder
  • Spot weld on coupons of different metal thickness
  • Spot weld a prop using a variety of flange treatment techniques
