This course is an Annual Training option for the following roles:
Estimator
Refinish Technician
Auto Physical Damage Appraiser

  • Understand various masking techniques to help create custom designs
  • Explain basic air brushing techniques, such as the creation of various dots and lines
  • Explain how knowledge of lighting perspective helps develop basic shadowing and highlighting techniques
  • Explain how to work with stencils and templates

Module 1 – Masking Technique
In this first module the student will learn the difference between positive and negative masking and how each is used in creating a custom design. Additional information is presented on how to mask shapes using fine-line tape and how to transfer a masked design. The module concludes with explaining how to layer designs with masking.

Module 2 – Airbrushing and Final Effects
The second and final module presents the student with information on airbrush basics and three basic airbrush techniques. Students will learn how lighting affects the shadows, shading, and highlights within a custom design. Additional information on how to work with stencils and templates will be presented, as will how to add detail to template designs. The module will conclude with several of the custom effects that can be achieved, such as woodgrain and granite.
